DADDY YANKEE
Daddy Yankee is reggaeton recording artist. He was born Ramon "Raymond" Ayala on February 3, 1977 in Rio Piedras, PR. Ayala first became involved in recording music in the early 1990s with DJ Playero. He rapped as a hobby while he was also involved in minor illegal activities until he was shot in his legs at age seventeen. He made his recording debut on the “One Tough Cop” soundtrack in 1998. Yankee's album debut came in 2000 with “El Cartel de Yankee,” followed by a second volume a year later, which led to “El Changri.com” in 2002 and “Los Homerun-es “ in 2003. “Los Homerun-es” became the biggest-selling album in Puerto Rico, setting the stage for the crossover success of “Barrio Fino” in 2004. Daddy Yankee led the reggaeton sound in the wake of his international breakthrough hit, "Gasolina" in 2004. With the backing of Universal, “Barrio Fino” became the first reggaeton album to debut at number one on the Billboard chart, where it stayed for weeks throughout 2004 and 2005 spending a year atop the charts. Yankee then released the live album “Ahora Le Toca al Cangri! Live” and a reissue of ‘Los Homerun-es” in March 2005. He also released the live album, “Barrio Fino en Directo” in 2005. He has appeared on over 70 albums, including "Más Flow 2." He has also performed with many artists such as Luny Tunes, Nas, Lloyd Banks, Snoop Dogg and many others. In 2005, Ayala was cast in a Paramount Pictures film called Talento de Barrio which will premiere in spring 2006.
