GERALD LEVERT
The son of O'Jays founder Eddie Levert, Gerald Levert was born into R&B royalty. Although his father discouraged his pursuit of music, Levert knew from an early age that music was his calling.Born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 13, 1966, Levert grew up around many of soul's greatest vocalists. On tour with the O'Jays as a child, the young singer had the unique opportunity to meet many of his influences, including James Brown and Marvin Gaye. By 1985, Levert, his younger brother Sean and good friend Marc Gordon formed LeVert. They soon released "I'm Still," which earned them a recording contract with Atlantic Records. Their debut, Bloodline, hit the streets in 1986 beginning a career with the band that scored five No. 1 singles, and seven Top 10 singles on Billboard's R&B chart. In 1991, Levert launched his solo career with Private Line. The title track became the singer's first solo No. 1 R&B single. Groove On followed in 1994 featuring a '70s soul vibe, complete with a live band and full horn section. Levert also teamed up with his legendary father on 1995's Father and Son.1997 saw the formation of R&B supergroup LSG with Levert, Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill sharing vocal duties, making the ladies swoon and further expanding Levert's already extensive fan base. In addition to his singing career, Levert has also written and produced songs for several other artists including the O'Jays, Barry White and Patti Labelle. Gerald Levert's latest album was Love & Consequences.
