EMINEM
MC Marshall Mathers (a.k.a. Eminem) is a Grammy winning rapper from Detroit. He first joined the New Jacks, and then moved on to Soul Intent who released Eminem's first single in 1995. Soon after, he then formed D-12. In 1996, he released “Infinite” and received a few good reviews. Afterward, he created “Slim Shady,” an alter ego who was unafraid to say whatever he felt. He had plenty of material to work with when his mother was accused of abusing his younger brother, his girlfriend left him and took their daughter, and he was forced to move in with his mother. An unsuccessful suicide made him realize his music was the only escape. Eminem's solid reputation as a lyricist earned him the respect of the powerful Dr. Dre, who signed him to his Aftermath label. Eminem's debut on Aftermath, “The Slim Shady LP,” hit No. 2 on the Billboard album charts within weeks of its release thanks to the breakthrough success of the single "My Name Is." His follow-up, “The Marshall Mathers LP” moved two million copies in its first week and became the fastest-selling rap album of all time in 2000. He also stepped in front of the camera with “8 Mile,” a film loosely based on his life. He re-emerged in 2002 with chart-topper “The Eminem Show.” In 2004, he released “Encore” and the greatest-hits set “Curtain Call: The Hits” in 2005. Mathers continues to produce and collaborate with Shady/Aftermath and G-Unit artists as well as rappers under his Shady Records label.
